Gifted Education : 9th Grade

Welcome to the 2011-12 school year. Currently identified gifted students will begin seminars the first week of October with their DSP conferences. Generally, ninth grade students will be missing PE classes. Students not in PE will be pulled from an elective course to attend seminars.

Parents are invited to a information meeting on September 28th (Wednesday) from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the enclosed cafeteria. This meeting is specifically for parents of ninth graders. If you are unable to attend on this date, there will also be an information meeting the following Wednesday (October 5) in the Auditorium 7:00 - 8:00 PM.  The meeting will be brief and will cover how the program will run this year. We will also be available to answer any questions at the Touch Base program on October 10th.

Ninth graders seminars focus on the theme of human activity and identity. They are scheduled for a field trip to Woodlawn Plantation in November and the National Gallery of Art in March, 2012.

If a student does not wish to participate in the seminars, there is a conference option or a student may be withdrawn from the program (both options require parental permission). Please contact a gifted teacher for more information about those options.

For Students Interested in the Gifted Program
If you are interested in being evaluated for eligibility to participate in the gifted program, please see the general information page for gifted education to obtain referral and permission forms for evaluation.

Seminar Dates

Students will attend during the activity portion of HPE, which means they will attend seminars on a three week rotation, approximately once a week, and then be off for three weeks. Seminars which meet during 1st period, may meet once or twice for each seminar, depending on the material being covered.

Section Announcements
Peer Nominations
Please do not forget that we are always looking for peer nominations for students who should be considered in the evaluation process for gifted services. These are especially helpful in the beginning of the year when new students come to Forest Park. If you know of a student who you would like to refer to be evaluated for eligibility for gifted services, please contact Ms. Overton or Mr. Bredbenner. Thank you!
